Laptops are portable version of desktops. They have made our life very comfortable. One can always keep their important files and data with them and can edit or send it whenever and wherever they are. A laptop not only provides support in professional field but also rescues us from boredom at any place. For e.g. If you are going to a trip for 2 or more days and you have your laptop with you then you can play games or watch movies for time pass. Laptops can also be used as power bank for charging your phone. 5 to 10 percent of the laptop battery can charge your phone fully. Laptops are compact and fragile devices, which can get damaged easily if well care is not taken. Also laptop repair charges are more costly as compared to PC and cannot be repaired by the user on his own unlike PC which can be repaired by person with little knowledge about PC. If you are planning to buy a laptop or have a new one then these are some of the tips to increase or maintain long life for your laptop.
  1. Avoid playing heavy games on laptops which are not for gaming. Most of the laptops have integrated GPU and may run heavy AAA titled games on it but will struggle a lot more than a gaming laptop. So if you really want a laptop for gaming then go for laptops having dedicated GPU like GTX 1050, GTX 1650 etc.
  2. Avoid using laptop keypads for gaming as laptop keys are soft in nature and will not tolerate heavy clicks while playing games. So it is advisable to use a seperate keyboard and mouse for gaming.
  3. Always plug in your laptop while playing games as on battery, performance of processor and GPU will be inhibited by system to save power, thus, cooling fans will also work with low speed so overheating will also take place. While plugged in laptop will provide its maximum performance and heating will also be less.
  4. Always give a rest to your laptop after a 4 hours of gaming to cool down your laptop. Whether its a gaming or normal laptop, games always will utilize maximum performance of laptop, thus, will lead to heating. So it will be relevant to give some rest to your laptop after large hours of gaming otherwise overheating will damage the motherboard and processor.
  5. If you feel like your laptop is heating too much even after being a gaming laptop then buy a cooling pad for your laptop as it will cool the laptop sufficiently to solve overheating problem. Also place your laptop at cool surrounding instead of high temperature atmosphere while playing games.
  6. Clean your laptop with a brush or any other soft material which will not do any scratch on keyboard or screen. Various soft brushes are available in the market which are solely for the purpose of cleaning laptop. You can also use vacuum cleaners to clean dust present between the keypads of laptop.
  7. Avoid installing unnecessary files or data from unsecure sources or sites. Installing them may result in attack of virus to your laptop and then you may have to format your laptop which will erase your necessary files.
  8. Check whether your windows defender (antivirus) is turned on. If not then turn it on and scan your laptop. You can turn it on by going to search option (in win 10, search option is available beside start button) and type windows defender. You will see the icon with wall in front of earth. Select that icon and go to advanced settings. There you can turn defender on or off.
  9. Always do a full scan once in a month. It will help to determine any unwanted software which can be harmful to your laptop or may extract or remove your important data from your laptop.
  10. Buy a laptop bag for your laptop if was not provided by company. It will protect your laptop from dust and will cause less damage when fallen to ground.
  11. You can set your laptop performance by clicking on the battery icon. If you are using your laptop for projects and work then slide the performance bar towards battery side. It will reduce the performance, this saves battery and will provide longer time on battery. If you are using it for gaming then slide the bar towards performance, which will give maximum performance and thus will consume more battery.
  12. Avoid leaving laptop on for whole night or day as it cause overheating of laptop and will slowly damage the motherboard and processor.
  13. Never try to repair a laptop on your own unless you are a computer mechanic as slight mistakes in wiring or any little scratches on motherboard can cause huge damage to the laptop. If its a new one and is under warranty then contact the customer care of respective company. If a laptop under warranty is tried to repair by its user then the warranty will be cancelled.
Laptops are a boon to us. Before laptop, desktops were used for work and gaming tasks but they were immobile which made them inconvenient for travellers and for business purpose. But laptops have solved this problem. Laptops are more vulnerable to damage than PC as laptops has small components and there are chances of falling to ground by accident. But it is on user that he/she should use it carefully with above measures practiced with intense care while using a laptop.
