How to buy a smartphone : complete guide

Smartphone

A Smartphone is a combination of entertainment, gaming, music, and work. In modern world, almost everyone has a smartphone and could not live a day without it. In earlier days phones were only used for calling and sending SMS but now mobile phone has evolved so much that its not only used for calls but for entertainment, gaming and even for payments related to online shopping.
While buying a smartphone, one should always keep some important aspects in mind. Those are :-
  • Operating system - Mainly two types of OS are successful till now i.e. Android and IOS (Apple). IOS is based on Os X or UNIX. In IOS, you will get user friendly service. Most of the apps must be purchased from apple app store. You will get safari as the default browser  and yes you can download other browsers and use it. Due to security precautions, file transfer in apple is difficult and are limited to apple - apple transfer. Other 3rd party app stores is also not allowed unless jailbreaking is done and even after jail breaking, user will not have full access to phone. Due to this tight restrictions, virus attack is very rare or non existent.  On the other hand, Android is based on Linux system. In this google apps are default like chrome, duo, drive etc. Most of the apps are available free in playstore and yes, you can install 3rd party app store in Android due to which chances of virus attack are there. File transfer is less restricted and files can be easily transferred from one phone to other without any difficulty unless 2nd one is an IOS. Users can have full access to their phone by rooting.
  • Display - Most of the low end phones have 60Hz display and high end phones have 90Hz or 120Hz display. Amoled displays are also provided in some low end phones. Some low end phones like realme 6 provide 60Hz/90Hz option. Anti-glare and wide angle displays should also be present.
  • Processors - A Processor acts as the brain of the smartphone. All applications and functions run according to it. Different processors with different clock speed and cores are available. Quad core (4) and octacore (8) processors are available which helps in multitasking and higher clock speed provides better performance. Some of the high spec phones also provide secondary processor will lower clock speed to provide efficient and better performance. Smartphones with different chipsets are available e.g. snapdragon, mediatek, kirin, apple A13 etc. Qualcomm Snapdragon and Mediatek are the competetive chipsets in the market. Both of them are best in their performance with Snapdragon slightly higher.
  • RAM - A RAM determines speed of the phone. More the ram, better the performance. High end games like PUBG requires minimum of 4Gb RAM for lag free experience. For playing higher games at high settings, 6gb or 8gb ram may be required. Higher ram also helps in lag free surfing and multitasking. When storage is full then some phone start lagging as more ram is used to manage storage, so having more ram will reduce this problem also.
  • Storage - Minimum of 64 gb of storage is must for recent smartphones as half of it will be already occupied by whatsApp to store media and messages, remaining will be used by camera and games and other applications. Camera itself will occupy large space as all new smartphones comes with high resolution camera i.e. 48 MP or higher, due to which images and videos will be of large size. Storage also affects speed of the phone. When storage becomes full, phone starts lagging slightly due to more ram consumption. Storage can also be increased by inserting SD card in SD card slot. Some of the new handsets do not support SD card as they will provide sufficient internal storage for the user.
  • Camera - This is the major aspect that most of the people gives important while buying a smartphone. Now a days, 48Mp and 64MP camera is the new trend. Some of the high end costly phones also provide 108MP primary camera also. These primary camera of 48MP and 64MP determines the resolution of image and quality of video (720p, 1080p, 4k). User may not see any difference between image quality in phones buy when they are displayed on large screen like laptop or TV, then their difference can be noted clearly. Secondary camera is also present in all of the recent phones. Secondary cameras are for determing depth, wide angle and giving DSLR effect. Most of the phones will have atleast dual camera, one primary and other for dslr effect. Quad camera are also present in cheap flagship phones like redmi and realme. Optical zoom is also very important. Most of the phones provide 10x hybrid zoom but some higher phones provide 60x optical zoom.
  • Battery - Most of the recent phones comes with 4000mAh battery. Having a large mAh battery will prevent frequent charging and thus increase lifespan of battery. Fast charging capability is also provided in sone phones by which you don't have to wait 2 or 3 hrs. for phone to get fully charged. High end phones definitely provide fast charging but some of the low priced phones like realme 6 also provide fast charging of 30w which will charge phone from 0-100 in 54 minutes. Some phones like redmi do not provide fast chargers with handset although phone supports fast charge. You can buy a seperate fast chargers for them.
  • Other features - Other than main features mentioned above some small features also affect user experience. Some new phones do not support headphone jack so user have to buy a Bluetooth headset to listen to music. Some phones have hybrid sim slots i.e. only 2 sim slots will be provided in which one will act as slot for both sim and SD card. User can either have 2 sims or 1 sim and 1 SD card. Some lower end phones provide splash proof phones but some higher end phones provide water resistant and dust proof technology. They can be dipped in water at 1m depth for 30 minutes. Almost all phones have gyro, proximity, accelerator, magnetic induction and light sensors.
If you are buying phone for gaming then you should give more importance to good processor and if you want professional type then give preference to camera and large battery.
